Pre-Match Strategies

Pre-match strategies allow you to analyze team behavior before a game starts, using historical data from recent matches. These strategies are ideal when you want to identify patterns early and receive alerts ahead of kickoff.

Pre-match statistics are calculated from each team’s most recent 5 or 10 matches. They help answer questions such as:

  • How often does a team score?
  • How many goals do they usually concede?
  • How consistent are their recent results?

How pre-match data is grouped

Pre-match statistics can be evaluated using three different perspectives:

  • Home – matches previously played at home
  • Away – matches previously played away
  • Overall – all recent matches, regardless of venue

Understanding common pre-match values

Some of the most frequently used pre-match statistics include:

  • Match Goals (Total) – the average total number of goals scored by both teams combined in recent matches
  • Goals Scored – the average number of goals scored by a team
  • Goals Conceded – the average number of goals conceded by a team

When you define a rule using these values, the result depends on the team selection you choose during rule creation (Home, Away, Total, etc.).

Percentages vs averages

All pre-match statistics fall into one of two categories:

  • Percentages
Values between 0 and 100 (or up to 200 when using Sum of Teams)
  • Averages
Decimal values such as 2.4, 0.7, or 3.1

Choosing the correct value type is essential to ensure your rules behave as expected.

When pre-match alerts are triggered

Strategies that rely exclusively on pre-match data and/or pre-match odds can trigger alerts at a specific time set by you (e.g. 3 hours, 30 minutes or 15 minutes before kickoff).

This makes pre-match strategies particularly useful for early preparation, planning, and filtering matches before live action begins.
