Alerts vs Scanner
InPlayGuru offers two powerful tools that often work together: Strategies and the In-Play Scanner.
While they are closely connected, they serve very different purposes. Understanding when to use each one will help you work more efficiently and avoid unnecessary complexity.
Strategies: automation and consistency
Strategies are designed for automation.
When you create a strategy, you are defining a set of conditions that the system continuously monitors for you — across all eligible matches.
Use strategies when you want to:
- Be notified automatically when specific conditions occur
- Apply the same logic consistently across many matches
- Remove the need for constant manual monitoring
- Build a history for later review and analysis
Once enabled, strategies work quietly in the background, whether or not you are actively watching the scanner.
The In-Play Scanner: exploration and monitoring
The in-play scanner is a real-time observation tool.
It allows you to:
- Explore what is happening across live matches
- Compare games side by side
- Apply temporary filters and sorting
- Visually assess momentum and match flow
Scanner filters and layouts are intentionally flexible and visual. They help you see patterns — not enforce them permanently.
How they work best together
A common and effective workflow looks like this:
- Use the scanner to explore matches and recognize patterns
- Translate those patterns into clear strategy rules
- Let the strategy monitor future matches automatically
- Return to the scanner to follow picked matches in detail
In this sense:
- The scanner helps you discover ideas
- Strategies help you apply them consistently
Common misunderstandings
Some users try to use the scanner as a replacement for strategies. This often leads to missed opportunities or unnecessary manual effort.
Likewise, strategies are not meant to replace visual judgment entirely. They handle detection — not interpretation.
When combined thoughtfully, these two tools allow you to stay informed, focused, and efficient — without needing to watch every match manually.
